By 9Honey|

A? major royal shift is currently underway across the UK and Commonwealth in the lead up to the King's coronation.

For more than 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II's image has been an intrinsic part of everyday life.

From coins, banknotes and stamps bearing her likeness to bright red post boxes sporting her cypher and various documents issued in her name, Britain's longest-reigning monarch remains the most instantly recognisable woman in the world.

But, following the proclamation of King Charles III, so began the great royal rebrand and with it a major transition that will see the iconography associated to her reign adapted in observance of his accession.

Though the process will be gradual, it is happening now.

It began with the issuing of the new King's cypher. The monogram consisting of his initial 'C' with the letter 'R' or Rex, the Latin for King, is expected to appear on government buildings, state documents and post boxes around the UK.

Acknowledging the end of one era and indeed the dawn of another, the Royal Mint recently unveiled the official coin effigy of King Charles III.

In keeping with tradition จC one that goes back to the reign of Charles II จC the new King's portrait will face to the left, the opposite direction to his mother's.

In a similar vein, the Bank of England has said updated banknotes featuring the King's portrait are expected to enter circulation by mid-2024.

There are currently around 4.5 billion sterling notes จC worth 80 billion pounds จC with the Queen's face on them in circulation, but it's likely to take some time for the new designs to be finessed.

In recognition of the transition, Britain's Royal Mail announced it has ceased production of its Queen Elizabeth II stamps in order to switch to a silhouette of the King.

As for other changes: the wording inside new passports previously issued in the name of Her Majesty will be updated to read His Majesty.

?But there are more changes ahead.
