Camilla gets her long-awaited moment as she's crowned Queen alongside husband King Charles

Not even the wet weather could rain on Queen Camilla's parade.

After a 50-year love story with her now-husband King Charles and years spent as Britain's most hated woman because of their affair, Camilla was warmly embraced as Queen by the people of the UK.

The scenes on May 6 - both inside Westminster Abbey, with Her Majesty crowned alongside her husband, as well as outside, with crowds cheering on the couple as they appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony - seemed almost impossible 18 years ago.

When the couple wed in a 2005 ceremony, there was plenty of contention over whether Camilla should, or would, ever become Queen.

Today, she basked in the moment จC a testatment of love, of hardwork, and most importantly, of winning over the people.

Watching on as her husband was crowned first, the couple's strong bond was evident.

The Queen could be seen adjusting herself in her seat to get a better glimpse of the moment he's waited 74 years for, as the longest-serving heir-apparent in British history.

The smile and pride on her face said it all.

Similarly, on the Buckingham Palace balcony, the new King took in his wife's presence beside him, wearing the ceremonial robes and Queen Mary's crown, also beaming.?

The moment Their Majesty's took to the balcony together for an encore symbolised the completing of an image rehabilitated and cemented Camilla's place in history.

"She's been very good for him, she's been very good for the country, very good for the Commonwealth," Queen Elizabeth's former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, tells 9Honey.

"She has a calming influence. She is one of these people that follows automatically, by nature, the royal family mantra 'never explain, never complain'.

"When you compare her to that woman over in California who complained about the media [and] she didn't get a fingernail of the sort of coverage that Camilla got จC she got bread rolls thrown at her in supermarkets, she was vilified as a Rottweiler.

"Anybody who comes through that gets much respect for me.

"And she's done it without complaining, without suing the newspapers."

Reflecting this, as of today the Queen Consort will officially be known as Queen Camilla.

The news came in a Royal Warrant issued during the week and the royal website has also been changed to reflect this.

The change, and recognising the Queen's moment in the day, is something the palace have been "pushing".

"The imagery is really important ... the palace does keep on stressing that this will be the crowning of a King and a Queen," Camilla Tominey told Foreign Press Association journalists in London recently.

"They're very keen on pushing the duality of the day and that's, of course, why members of her family has been included in the ceremony as well as his," the associate editor of Telegraph UK added.?
