In our 'I Woke Up Like This' series, 9Honey removes the filters from everyday life and bares all for a much-needed reality check.
We will be speaking to a range of people ¡ª from faces you know to faces you will want to know ¡ª to tear away the fa?ade of make-up and social media and bring things back to basics with realistic 'I woke up like this' selfies and morning routines.
Today, we're 'waking up' with Priya Serrao ¡ª a member of the Swisse Beauty Squad as well as an Australian lawyer, policy advisor and beauty pageant titleholder who represented Australia in Miss Universe in 2019, becoming the first Indian-Australian to win the Miss Universe Australia title.?
What time do you wake up?
"I've been working from home since COVID restrictions have been in place, so I have the most sporadic sleeping pattern. During the week I usually wake up between 8:00-8:30am and on weekends it's closer to 10."
How many alarms do you set?
"I set three alarms five minutes apart to make sure I don't fall back to sleep!"
Tea or coffee?
"Tea ¨C English breakfast or peppermint!"
TV or radio, podcast or silence?
"This is so boring, but I love a little silence in the morning. I like having some time to myself for half an hour to wake up slowly, stretch a little and sit in the quiet. It's a luxury."
What do you eat for breakfast?
"I usually fast until midday or 1pm but when I don't, I have scrambled eggs or an omelette or avocado on toast."
How long does it take you to get out the door?
"I'd say 30 minutes on average. I've perfected the art of the five-minute face and I usually plan what I'm going to wear the night before. This means I get to stay in bed for longer!"
Any unusual morning rituals or habits?
"I drink a bottle of hot water as soon as I wake up every morning. It's been a habit since I was in school and people always find it so strange.?I also carry a thermos of hot water everywhere."
What's the one thing you never have time for in the morning?
"Exercise. I wish I could say I was someone who exercises at 6am every day. I have gone through phases where I've been able to wake up that early but now that it's officially winter, it's impossible to find motivation."
What's the one thing you always do?
"I always make some time for skincare. I have dry skin so I use both the Swisse Rose Hip?Antioxidant Facial Oil and Swisse Rose Hip Nourishing Cream Moisturiser on my face in the morning followed by sunscreen. I wear sunscreen every day regardless of whether I'm staying in or going out ¨C a habit I've gotten from my mum!"
