Queen Consort Camilla 'hurt' by Prince Harry's claims in Spare, longtime friend reveals

By Natalie Oliveri|

The Queen Consort was hurt by some of the allegations made against her in Prince Harry's memoir, a close friend has revealed.

?The Duke of Sussex spoke unfavourably about Camilla in Spare, including that he and Prince William "begged" their father King Charles not to marry her, fearing she would become their "wicked stepmother".

Harry claimed Camilla leaked stories about the royal family to improve her image and "sacrificed" him "on her personal PR altar".

In an interview to promote his memoir, Harry described the Queen Consort as "dangerous" and a "villain" who left "bodies in the street".

Now, one of Camilla's oldest friends has spoken of how Harry's comments affected her.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the Marchioness of Lansdowne, who is also known as Fiona Shelburne, said the Queen Consort has been left hurt by Harry's claims.

"Of course it bothers her, of course it hurts," she said.

"But she doesn't let it get to her. Her philosophy is always, 'Don't make a thing of it and it will settle down จC least said, soonest mended.'"

Lady Lansdowne, 68, was recently named one of the 'Queen's companions', a new role replacing traditional ladies-in-waiting.

She and Camilla have been friends for decades.

Meanwhile, an aide said of the Queen Consort's reaction to Prince Harry's book: "It was not stamping of feet or gnashing of teeth, it was much more of an eye-roll response".

Another close friend told The Times of her approach to Harry and his comments: "Because she has a hugely strong sense of family, like any other family, she knows there are times when things are good and bad, but with family you just keep going.

"It has never been a huge drama for her; she's not into the drama, and she's got a forgiving nature.

"She might make it tough for you for a bit, but then she moves on.

"She doesn't feel there is a huge sense of malice; she knows some people in the family are unhappy จC people get upset จC but in 10 years' time they'll all be looking back, like most families, just getting on with it."

However, in 2018 Harry's biographer Angela Levin quoted him as having a different view of his stepmother.

"She's not a wicked stepmother. Look at the position she's coming into," he said.

"Don't feel sorry for me and William, feel sorry for her. William and I love her to bits. She's a wonderful woman and she's made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing."?

Prince Harry recently confirmed he would be returning to London for the coronation of King Charles and the Queen Consort next month.

But his wife Meghan, and their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will remain in California.

May 6 จC coronation day จC also happens to be the fourth birthday of Archie.
