Mystery stiletto left at Prince Christian's party sparks major search for 'real-life princess'

?A woman has come forward claiming a mystery shoe that was left behind at Prince Christian's 18th birthday party, sparking a nationwide search for the real-life Cinderella.

A photo of the gold stiletto ?was shared on the Danish royal household's Instagram pages hours after the ball, calling for the owner to come forward.

It said: "Is it Cinderella who forgot her shoe last night??"

The caption continued: "When the guests at Her Majesty the Queen's gala dinner yesterday had gone home, this lonely stiletto shoe was left at Christiansborg Castle.

"The owner is welcome to contact you to get it back.?"

Prince Christian's milestone birthday was celebrated with a large party inside Christiansborg Palace on Sunday evening, hosted by Queen Margrethe II.

It was attended by Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik and Christian's younger siblings ?Princess Isabella, 16, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, both 12.

His uncle Prince Joachim, who moved to the US in August, was also there with his wife Princess Marie and their three youngest children Count Felix, 21, Count Henrik, 14, and Countess Athena, 12.

A number of future monarchs were also present including royals from Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium.

?Some of Crown Princess Mary's Australian relatives were there too, including her sister Jane Stephens and her husband Craig, and her nieces Cherie Coppin and Michelle Donaldson, the daughters of her brother John.

More than 200 young people, around Prince Christian's age, who have made their mark in the worlds of sport, arts and culture, were invited from across Denmark and its territories of Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

The owner of the shoe was one of these lucky guests, Anne-Sofie T?rns? Olesen, from Denmark's Egedal region.

And it turns out, she left it at the palace on purpose after being inspired by story of Cinderella who marries her prince after long search.

"I thought it was a bit funny myself, and I talked to my family and friends about it before, and they agreed that I should do it," T?rns? Olesen, 18, told Danish publication Se & H?r.

"It's such a chance you won't get again."

?She said she was keen to get the shoe back because it was "a memory from a great evening".

The lost shoe, by Danish brand ?Deichmann's Catwalk collection, sparked an immediate flurry of comments on the royal family's Instagram page.

The shoe brand said: "If the princess comes from a long way, we will gladly give her a new pair?".

While one fan said: "You'll need to send Prince Christian out to try it on all the invited girls in the kingdom. Otherwise you risk evil step sisters coming in as owners".

Another added: "The girl who has 'forgotten' it is genius จC she deserves the prince and half the kingdom".

While someone said: "I think Christian needs to go out and see who the shoe fits จC imagine if it was a real love story".

Others praised the team behind the post, which has made headlines around the world.

"Immediate pay increase, for the PR employee in the royal house, who came up with this idea," one said.

Queen Margrethe surprised her grandson with a performance by Danish rapper Benjamin Hav & Familien who got all the guests up dancing towards the end of the night, including Princess Mary and her family who can be seen front row as the music played.
