Kate's uncle apologises for comments he made before cancer news: 'Went to print before I was aware'

The Princess of Wales' uncle, Gary Goldsmith has apologised for his recent criticisms to Meghan Markle and his niece.?

In an interview with?The Times UK, he referred to the Duchess of Sussex as "laughing girl," slamming her marriage to Prince Harry.?

He also said that he didn't believe Prince William and the Princes of Wales were "at their happiest."

Goldsmith addressed the poor timing of his comments, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to apologise.?

"As many will have seen, I am featured in Saturday's "Times Magazine". This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and went to print before I was aware of the sad news regarding my niece Kate."

"My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time and deeply upset at the timing of this article."

"I hope this draws a line over the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let's give Kate, William & the children time and show some love back."

Despite saying he was only made aware of the health of his niece last week, Goldsmith hinted while on Celebrity Big Brother that he might know more than the public did.

Love Island winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu asked Goldsmith: "Where's Kate?"

He replied: "Because she doesn't want to talk about... the last thing I'm going to do is... there's a kind of code of etiquette. If it's announced, I'll give you an opinion.

"I spoke to her mum, my sister, she's getting the best care in the world.

"And all the family's done is put the wagons round and look after family first before anything else. They put a statement out and just said, 'She's taking some time to (recuperate) and will see you in Easter'."

The Princess of Wales announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing "preventative chemotherapy".
