Single mum in tears after being told she wasn't allowed to travel with three-month-old twins

By Nikolina Koevska Kharoufeh |

A single mum of twins says she is "devastated" after being forced to cancel flights to visit her mum, claiming the airline she was flying with refused to allow her to travel alone with the babies.

Amanda Bailey, who lives in Toronto, Canada, was looking forward to visiting her mother who lives a two-hour flight away in New Brunswick.

Though after being told she wasn't able to board her flight alone with her three-month-old twins Evangeline and Ezra, Bailey had to postpone the trip until she can find someone to help.

"I'm a single mum. I take care of my children by myself day in, day out - since they were born. I'm so mad that this is happening," she said on a TikTok.

Bailey shared her story on the platform, fighting back tears as she explained the reason she was denied the right to travel.

"?We are not allowed to fly by ourselves on Thursday and I'm super disappointed," Bailey says in the clip.

After booking her flights, the mum was stunned to find out that under Canadian Aviation Regulations, no passenger can be responsible for more than one infant during a flight.

?The regulations cite safety as the reason for the law.

"To me it makes no sense, especially if they are still travelling in a car seat," the frustrated mum said on the video while holding one of her twins.

"Being a single mum and not being able to do the things you literally do on an everyday basis because of ?safety."

She revealed after multiple conversations with the Canadian Airline, she was told that the rule was in place as it's not believed an adult can care for more than one infant in a timely manner.

Though unfortunately the mum doesn't have the means to bring someone with her to assist in caring for the twins.

"Flights are ridiculous to even ask anyone to come with me and they won't honour a price," she explained.

Days after sharing her experience with thousands online, Bailey confirmed with followers that she had to cancel her flights.

"Yea we're not happy about it. Tried to get someone to fly with me but they wouldn't let me change the name on the seat. I am going to try to rebook and fly out on a later date with someone accompanying me."

And while she was grateful that she did receive a full refund, she remains frustrated by the law which she believes "makes zero sense".

"Being a single mum is hard enough," she concluded, later posting another asking anyone who may be travelling from Toronto to New Brunswick to help her on a flight so she can get to her mum.
