Meghan claims her relationship with her father Thomas soured "when the media became involved".
She recalls reaching out to Queen Elizabeth for help regarding her father's media interviews, and Her Majesty and Prince Charles suggested she write a letter.
According to the Duchess of Sussex, her family's behaviour and interviews with the press was "very embarrassing for the family" and "a problem that needed to be solved... they wanted me to make it stop."
"And of course, I reached out to Her Majesty and was like, 'This is what's going on. What do you want me to do? I want ... whatever advice you have,'" said the 41-year-old.
"But ultimately, it was suggested by the Queen and the Prince of Wales [now King Charles] that I write my dad a letter."
Meghan said in the series how she went to "great lengths to get that letter to my dad discreetly."
Thomas Markle Snr would ultimately share the letter with the Daily Mail, leading to its publication ¨C prompting Meghan to take legal action against the newspaper.
The Duchess of Sussex has spoken further about her mental health struggles ahead of the couple resigning as senior working members of the British royal family.
Meghan first shared her battle with Oprah Winfrey in the couple's March 2021 interview.
She expanded on her thoughts at the time, with her mother Doria Ragland sharing concerns about her daughter and Prince Harry' confessing he felt "ashamed" at how he handled matters.
"I felt angry and ashamed. I didn't deal with it particularly well," he said. "I dealt with it as Institution Harry, not as Husband Harry."
He referenced his mother Princess Diana discussing similar struggles ahead of her death.?
Diana spoke of her battle with mental ill health in her 1995 BBC interview with Martin Bashir.
"Well, maybe I was the first person ever to be in this family who ever had a depression or was ever openly tearful. And obviously that was daunting, because if you've never seen it before how do you support it?" she said, adding that she was then labelled "unstable."
Diana continued: "When no one listens to you, or you feel no one's listening to you, all sorts of things start to happen,"?
Harry and Meghan alleged the royal family waited for Meghan to return to Canada in early 2020 before arranging a meeting to discuss the details of the 'royal exit'.
Of that meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth, now-King Charles and Prince William, Harry said it was "terrifying" to have his brother "scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren't true, and my grandmother sit there and quietly take it all in."
Meghan said she wasn't happy to be excluded.
"Imagine a roundtable discussion about the future of your life, when the stakes are this high, and you as the mum, and the wife, and the target in many regards, aren't invited to have a seat at the table," she said in the documentary.?
The Duchess of Sussex wiped away tears while discussing her miscarriage, which occurred in July 2020.
Harry went as far as to say he felt the miscarriage was caused by the stress Meghan endured at the hands of the British press.
Prince Harry directly accused the publishers of the Daily Mail of causing his wife Meghan to have a miscarriage.?
Harry said: "I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did.
The duke suggested the Daily Mail knew they could print Meghan's personal letter to her father because they knew the royal family was unlikely to take legal action over the violation.
He explained when he and Meghan decided to pursue legal action independently of the family, that contributed to the eventual rift.
Meghan ultimately won her lawsuit against the publisher.
"This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what's right," the Duchess of Sussex said in a statement.?
"The courts have held the defendant to account, and my hope is that we all begin to do the same. Because as far removed as it may seem from your personal life, it's not. Tomorrow it could be you."
The publisher ultimately lost an appeal against the ruling.?
Prince Harry said he preferred being criticised by the press than to "play along" with a system he says his brother William was using to feed stories to the press, as he claims their father did when they were younger.
"To see my brother copy my dad's office and do the thing we said we'd never do, that was heartbreaking," he said in the Netflix series.
H?arry and Meghan pointed to their success during their Australian tour in 2018 as a turning point in their relationship with the royal family.
The couple suggested in Volume 2 of their Netflix series that there was jealousy over their success and Meghan's dominance on the front page of newspapers upon their return.
The couple's friend Lucy Fraser describes their Australia tour as a "turning point" for the Sussexes and how they were perceived by the public, and not necessarily in a good way.
"They were so popular with the public, the internals at the palace were incredibly threatened by that," Fraser commented.
"The issue is, when someone is 'marrying in' who should be a supporting act is then stealing the limelight or is doing the job better than the person who was born to do this, that upsets people, it shifts the balance," Harry said, as footage of Kate conducting royal engagements is shown.?
T?he new trailer for the Harry & Meghan docuseries has also shed more light on Prince Harry's falling out with his brother Prince William and his feelings about his treatment at the hands of the "institution."
He says in the trailer: "To see this institutional gaslighting?..."
He later says: "They were happy to lie to protect my brother?, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."
Prince Harry's acknowledgement of preferential treatment for his brother may have led to his choice of book title, Spare, a memoir out on January 10.?
T?he Duke of Sussex has left no doubts about his feelings about leaving the UK and the royal family behind, in the final installments of the docuseries Harry & Meghan out on Thursday on Netflix.
The couple resigned from the royal family in January 2020, their first stop Canada before they eventually settled in Montecito in the US.
In a trailer for the new episodes, Harry records a video during a flight and says: "We are on the freedom flight," a wide smile on his face.?
In the trailer for Volume II of Harry & Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a slew of never-before-seen snaps from their 2018 royal wedding.
Among the photos was an image of Prince Harry with his arms around a few of his friends?, the couple dancing and several happy snaps of guests.
In the trailer, the couple remember their wedding, especially their "fun" first dance.
"I just really wanted the music to be fun. Even our first dance," the Duchess of Sussex narrated.
The couple nicknamed their dance the "Song of 1000 dances" and "1000 dances", before Meghan laughed: "I always get it wrong."
But there was one glaring omission in the photo album shared by the couple ¨C not one member of the royal family were pictured enjoying the wedding festivities.?
The royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, were almost certainly present at the reception?.
It appears the documentary producers have decided not to include any photos of other senior royals in the trailer.
Among the wedding shots was a snap of Meghan dancing with music icon Elton John, who was one of the famous guests at their 2018 wedding.
H?arry and Meghan gave fans a rare glimpse into some of the more intimate moments of their glitzy wedding reception.
One of the photos showed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoying their first dance at the reception.
"That was our first dance, it was so fun!" Meghan narrated the clip.
"Just spinning like a whirlwind. It was so great."
Volume II of Harry & Meghan will be released on December 15th.
I?n Volume 1 of Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex has spoken of the moment she knew she had lost contact with her father.
The paid paparazzi photo scandal had broken, but Meghan says she was desperate to talk to her dad, in particular when she heard through news services he had suffered a heart attack.?
After making multiple calls to Thomas Markle Snr, Meghan received a message that simply read: "I'm back in the hospital needle angiogram." This is a common procedure following a suspected heart attack.
Meghan responded: "I've been reaching out to you all weekend but you're not taking any of our calls or replying to any texts... Do you need help?... What hospital are you at."
After not receiving a response to this text she sent one that read: "Please please call us as soon as you can... all of this is incredibly concerning but your health is most important."
Again, she received no answer, so she texted: "Please can you send hospital details as soon as possible so we know where you are."?
M?eghan said she continued to reach out, explaining she and Harry "aren't angry" after the photo scandal broke, even after his denials to the couple.
She then received a text which read: "I've done nothing to hurt you Meghan or anyone else..."
The Duchess said his use of "Meghan" instead of "Meg" flagged for her that it wasn't her father texting her.
"I know nothing about 20 phone calls I'm sorry my heart attack is there [sic] any inconvenience for you."
Another text read: "If only I had died then you guys then you guys [sic] could pretend to be sad."?
It was then that Harry intervened and sent a text which read: "Tom, it's Harry, please answer your phone. I need to know this is actually you because it doesn't sound like u [sic] at all."
Meghan explained in the documentary that her father used emojis and other symbols while texting and she remains convinced it wasn't him corresponding with them.
Both she and Harry confirmed in the series she has no contact with her father.?
Episode three? focused heavily on Britain's colonial past and Meghan's experience as a mixed-race woman.
Prince Harry said there was a "huge level of unconscious bias" in the royal family.
"In this family, sometimes you are part of the problem rather than part of the solution. There is a huge level of unconscious bias.
"The thing with unconscious bias, it is actually no one's fault. But once it has been pointed out, or identified within yourself you then need to make it right.
"It is education. It is awareness. It is a constant work in progress for everybody, including me."
He also spoke about when he wore a Nazi uniform to a private party in 2005.
"It was probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I felt so ashamed afterwards. All I wanted to do was make it right."
T?he Duchess of Sussex has fought back tears while recording a home video during a time when she was separated from Prince Harry.?
The couple met in July 2016 in London and then struggled to find time to meet each other.
Following the royal wedding, Harry and Meghan resided at Kensington Palace and then Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before relocating to Montecito in the US.?
