Queen Letizia of Spain poses for photographs for the BeReal app

Queen Letizia of Spain has shared a special moment with royal fans. The royal was meeting with a group of young swimmers when one of the girls received a message from the BeReal app reminding them it was time to post a selfie.

At the time she was with the royal, who happily posed with the group.

The photo and video of the moment was shared on Twitter by ?@david_h_morales. In the video we see the royal receiving instructions from the group before taking up her position front and centre. She quickly smooths down her hair before the snap is taken.

Queen Letizia is wearing a pink blouse and black pants in the photo. She is understood to be the first royal to appear on the app.

The BeReal app? helps social media follows share more realistic photos than heavily filtered versions on other platform by prompting users sporadically so the photos are impromptu.

Queen Letizia and husband King Felipe VI are parents to two teenager girls จC Princess Leonor, 17, and Princess Sofia, 15. Princess Leonor began solo royal duties in 2022 including attending a conference on youth and cyber security in Madrid.

Queen Letizia จC who celebrated her 50th birthday on September 15 จC is credited with having modernised the Spanish royal family. Since joining the royal family in 2004, the former journalist has focused her work on social issues including children's rights, culture and education.

More recently she has spoken out about youth mental health, taking part in an event for World Mental Health Day on October 10.

She spoke of the importance of starting conversations about mental health and the role the media and social media platforms can play in those conversations.

Recalling conversations with youth and teenagers grappling with mental health issues, Queen Letizia spoke of their struggles to "coexist with a mental issue."

"This, let's call it boom of conversations around mental health could be, has to be the beginning of the collective answer that is needed in the societies we live in," she continued. "Let's wish for it to be so."
