Pregnant sister-in-law demands woman change her puppy's name

By Madhurima Haque|

Getting a new pet is very exciting - but one woman says her sister-in-law has rained on her puppy parade by insisting she changes the dog's name.

The woman took to Reddit and explained her sister-in-law, who is pregnant but does not know what gender her baby is, wants the puppy's name Luna changed as she is considering that name if her baby is a girl.

"I adopted a puppy a couple of days ago and posted it on Facebook with her name. I got a message from my sister-in-law asking why I named my dog Luna," the woman wrote. "She's currently pregnant and said she was going to use that name if she had a girl (she doesn't know the gender yet) and told me to change my dogs name.

"I don't really talk to her so how was I suppose to know she wanted that name? She can be mad all she wants but I'm not changing my dog's name."

Fellow Redditers were quick the point out that even if the woman did change her puppy's name - it would not be the end of the matter for the mum-to-be.

"Just wait till she finds out that literally every single dog is named Luna," said one person pointed out.

The person was not wrong. Recently released data found Luna was not only the top dog's name in Australian in 2021, but also the top name for cats.

One person had cheeky idea. "If you want to maliciously comply, change the name of the dog to your sister-in-law's name," they suggested.

Others said there would be nothing wrong with the baby being name after doggy Luna anyway.

"My parents liked their friend's dog's name, Meagan, so they decided to name my sister Meagan also," recounted one commenter.

"Years ago, I had a coworker who had a dog named 'Sam'. He named his son the same thing. He had the dog first," said another.
