'I will never understand': Mum shares tragic details of losing twins after they fell asleep in a toy box

A mum in the US has shared the tragic details of how she lost her four-year-old twins in the most unimaginable way.

"Not many will know the pain of losing two children at the same time and losing them in a way that makes no sense," Sadie Myers wrote on a Facebook post, sharing details of the incident as a warning to other parents.

The mum says her twins, Aurora and Kellan Starr, had fallen asleep together in a cedar toy chest before the lid closed and "they slowly ran out of oxygen."

Mum Sadie shared details of what had happened to her Facebook page, asking for prayers for her family and warning fellow parents of the dangers.

"It makes no sense to me and never will¡­ I hope knowing this helps in some way, and I hope if you have a toy box like this that you destroy it immediately!"

Sadie explained that last Friday night, whilst she was working, her husband Don Starr put all four of the kids to be like he usually does.

When she returned home from work she did her regular check in of each of the kids and saw them each sleeping in their bed so she went down herself.

Early in the morning, the parents and their two other children had woken, but the twins were no where to be found.

"Don went to check for them and this is when we realized something was wrong, so we ALL immediately started panicking, yelling for them, turning the house upside down, yelling up and down the street," she recalled.

It was her son Axton who had checked the chest and found the siblings.

"Yelled 'Mommy I found them! They are so silly just sleeping in the toy box' so I ran in to check and within a few seconds I knew something wasn't right."

"I also quickly realized it was already too late," the mum devastatingly shared.

Sadie explained the twins would regularly get up in the middle of the night and move into the playroom to play together.

"They usually fall asleep in some weird place in their room with toys left everywhere so mum and dad can see proof of their late night playing when we get up in the morning?."

Though this night the spot they chose was a cedar toy chest that they used to store all their stuffed toys inside.

"They pulled out all but a couple stuffed animals, I guess they left some to keep it comfy in there, then they laid inside head to toe with one arm each over their twin."

The mum believes the lid closed on them whilst one of the kids perhaps moved during their sleep, and once it did it was airtight. ?

"So as they slept, all snuggled up together, they slowly ran out of oxygen within a couple of hours and passed away. They never even knew it was happening."

Sadie and her husband Don are now mourning the loss of their beloved twins, struggling to understand how such a thing could happen.

"I have to believe that something in this universe chose them specifically, maybe to protect them from some future tragedy, or maybe because their souls were too perfect for this world?."

The mum says they are focused on supporting their two older boys who are also dealing with the loss.

'Every second with those twins was full of laughter, silliness, dancing, silly questions and funny faces, games and jokes, happiness and love!"

"We will cherish those memories and always celebrate the twins and we will carry their memory with us in all we do."

Sadie's sister Deanna sharing more about the family on a GoFundMe page which she has set up to help financially support the family during this challenging time.

"As much as these wonderful parents have tried to blame themselves, they can't. They couldn't have known that this would happen or done anything to stop it. Four-year-old twins do so many silly things and they always do them together," Deanna wrote, calling it an 'incomprehensible loss'.

Sadie's sister revealed that the mum and dad were both working full time jobs with an opposite roster, so that they would never need to leave the children alone with a sitter.

"I know they were always exhausted but they were still able to be so present and so loving with each of their four children every single day, no exceptions.?"
