Inspiring advice

Turia Pitt is in heaven.

New mum to son Hakavai, three months, the 30-year-old told 9Honey itกฏs been delightful.

"Iกฏm loving it," she said.

After suffering severe burns during the Kimberly Ultramarathon 'Racing The Planet' in 2011, Pitt has become an inspiration both in Australia and around the world.

Ahead of her first major public appearance to launch the new Westfield Women in Conversation event series since giving birth, Pitt told 9Honey she loves being a mum, but had learned very quickly how important it is to make time to care for herself.

"I know it can be hard to do, but Iกฏd really encourage new mums to try and make some time for something they enjoy every day, or as close to that as possible.

"Even if itกฏs only for a few minutes.

"Itกฏs important to prioritise yourself. Youกฏve got to fill your bucket first!"

She also recommends new mums gather a strong support group around them.

"Part of building that is being open and honest with others," she said. "You know, no one achieves anything alone."

She encourages mums to talk to each other.

"Sharing your story and experiences can help you connect with people going through a similar thing."

While Pitt is still as busy as ever before, she says being a mum is her priority this year.

"Think about all of the กฎfirstsกฏ a baby goes through in his first year. Itกฏll be the first time he crawls, walks, and tries food!"

"I love spending time with Hakavai. He makes the most mundane experiences seem extraordinary.

"I took him to the post office the other day and he loved it. How cool is that?

"This year, Iกฏm fitting my work around Hakavai, not the other way around."

That being said, Pitt has a string of appearances planned, although she'll be keeping her son close by.

"Iกฏm back on the road sharing my story at events across Australia," she said. "Iกฏve updated my memoir จC Unmasked จC and it comes out in April. It has a few new chapters about Hakavaiกฏs birth, so that will be cool to share."

Sheกฏs also excited at the number of people joining her online mindset coaching program, School of Champions.

"Iกฏm excited to see what they achieve with my strategies in their pockets," she said.

The athlete and author is looking forward to sharing her story with others.

"Nothing prepares you for how drastically life changes when you become a mum. From the magic moments to the sleepless nights. Itกฏs a crazy time and one I think we should talk more about.

"Thatกฏs why Iกฏm stoked to be working with Westfield and Business Chicks on the new Westfield Women in Conversation event series.

"Itกฏs a chance to share my story with other mums."
