What are the hottest baby names for new Australian parents?
The state of NSW has ?officially welcomed a changing of the guard for the most popular names for boys and girls in 2022.
Noah and Charlotte have officially taken the top spots for boys and girls, with Oliver and Olivia knocked off their thrones.?
Long-time favourite Oliver had been number one for eight years!
When it comes to both boys and girls, traditional names clearly remain firm favourites. ?
Classic names like Grace, Evelyn, Jack and Henry have remained on trend, taking out a spot within the top 20 in both 1922 and 2022.
Among the biggest movers and shakers, Joshua fell 27 places from 2021 to 2022. For the girls, Lara dropped 24 spots, while Hallie jumped 31 places to land at 67.
"Picking a name for your baby can be a daunting task, a once-in-a-lifetime decision forming a child's identity and creating a connection to family, community and culture," said NSW Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Jihad Dib
There were also 11,000 names, including those with unique spelling, given to only one child.

1. Noah
Noah has knocked Oliver from the top spot for the first time in eight years, becoming the most popular boys' name.
Interestingly the name Noah, of Hebrew origin, is considered both a boy's and girl's name? and means "rest".
There were ?630 baby boys born with the name Noah in NSW last year.
2. Oliver
Aussie parents are officially turning their back on long-time favourite Oliver, that had ranked number one for boys since 2018.
The name Oliver is boy's name of Latin origin meaning "olive tree", according to Nameberry.
3. Leo
One of the many nicknames elevated to first-name status, Leo landed in third place.
Leo has experienced a surge in popularity around the world, which is partly, thanks to Leonardo "Leo" DiCaprio and Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem calling their son Leo.
4. William
William is the stand-out name that has stood the test of time across the generations, ranking second in 1922 and in the top five last year.
5. Theodore
Aussie parents love the name Theodore, with many also using the nicknames Theo and Teddy.
There were officially 404 ?little Theodores welcomed in NSW last year.

Charlotte leapt ahead two places from last year to take out the most popular name for girls, replacing Olivia, which dropped to fourth position.
There were 430 baby girls named Charlotte in NSW last year, perhaps boosted by the popularity of Princess Charlotte.
2. Amelia
Amelia has gone back-to-back in second place.
The name Amelia is a name of German origin meaning 'work'.
Nameberry has described Amelia as one of the 'hottest girls' names' and an update to the overused Emily and Amanda.?
3. Isla
Isla is a baby girl name of Spanish origin meaning 'island' and came in at third place.
It is also part of a trend for simple, old-fashioned girls' names that start and end with a vowel.

Olivia slipped from first to fourth place?, with 401 baby girls named Olivia last year.
5?. Mia
Mia originated as a short form of Maria and has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the baby name charts.
There were officially 363 babies named Mia in NSW in 2022. ?

Ava snagged sixth spot?, with 343 little Avas welcomed last year.
