Top NSW baby names in 2022: Royal girls name reclaims top spot, boys name maintains eight-year streak

The top baby names in NSW for 2022 have been released to the delight and dismay of parents across the state who were hoping for a unique moniker for their child.

Classic names took out the top spots for girls and boys last year, with Charlotte coming in as the most popular girls name and Oliver ranked as the most popular boys name.

It's the eighth year in a row that Oliver has taken out the top spot for boys, while Charlotte overtook Olivia, which was the most popular girls name in 2021.

In 2020, the most popular girls name was Amelia, but Charlotte reigned from 2017 to 2019. Prince William and Kate Middleton's daughter Princess Charlotte was born in 2015.

As for the other top baby names in 2022, Noah and Leo were the second and third most popular boys names respectively, followed by William? and Theodore to round out the top five.

The rest of the top 10 were as follows; Jack in sixth place, Henry in seventh, Luca in eighth, Thomas in ninth and Charlie in tenth place.

Amelia and Olivia were the second and third most popular girls names last year, followed by; Isla in fourth place, Mia in fifth, Ava in sixth, Ella in seventh, Matilda in eighth, Sienna in ninth and Chloe in tenth place.

The NSW State Government releases a full list of the top 100 names for both boys and girls each year, revealing rising trends among new Australian parents.

While the full list hasn't been released yet, the top 10 has already shown some big changes compared to 2021's name trends.

Levi and Liam, two of the most popular names for boys in 2021, have dropped out of the top 10 entirely while Charlie entered the top 10 for the first time this year.

In 2021, Grace was listed as the seventh most popular girls name but it has fallen out of the top 10 for the first time in more than seven years.

Instead Sienna has made its way onto the list for the first time since 2011. Perhaps new parents have been taking inspiration from actress Sienna Miller?
