Watch the moment toddler creates chaos during 'perfect proposal': 'This did not just happen!'

By Naomi White|

It was the perfectly planned proposal that went very, very awry.

When Luke Aukuso was deciding how he'd ask his now now fiancจฆe, Stephanie Lamb, to marry him, he knew he wanted his step-daughter Harpie, two, to play a central role.

But the sweet gesture had some unintended consequences - which almost ruined the moment completely.

?Uploading footage of the very memorable moment to TikTok, Stephanie, from Brisbane, showed how Luke and her daughter bent down in front of her, holding a ring box.

So far, so good. Until Luke asks for the toddler's help and the choice of a pier at Hervey Bay as the location goes from picturesque to problematic. ?

Handing Harpie the box, he tells her to 'look at mummy'. When Stephanie gasps, however, the little girl drops the ring right through the gap between two slats of the pier. ?

As friends capturing the ?moment on film scream out 'no!' the couple scramble to try to catch sight of the falling ring.

As a friend warns Luke not to jump from the pier, a splash can be heard as he dives in and swims under the pier.

Stephanie's dad then peers through the boards, directing Luke towards where he can see the ring sinking under.

Stephanie can be seen half laughing, half crying, saying: 'This did not just happen!', as Harpie cries, obviously upset by the situation.

Before Stephanie cries out 'He got it!' and laughs with relief, as the others tell everyone to move from the pier.

The clip has since been viewed more than 35 million times, with many commending Luke for managing to find the ring.

"Zero hesitation. So I KNOW that ring was expensive as hell!," said one.

"?This was such a wild rollercoaster of emotions just watching! Imagine experiencing," added another.

"Omg so lucky he found it.. what a story to tell at the wedding though!," agreed one.

"?Depending on the price of the ring, no water is too shallow," joked another.

In follow up vi?deo Stephanie shows off the ring and explains that they weren't upset by Harpie's mistake.

"It wasn't Harpie's fault, at all. She's just a very helpful, very helpful little girl," she explained.

"Everyone is like 'Why would you do it with a kid around?'. Luke wanted to essentially ask Harper as well because Luke is actually Harper's stepdad. It was an actual shared moment for all of us."

Luke, who added he was 'committing to both of them' said he hadn't expected Harpie to grab the ring so quickly.?

"Kids are quick, much quicker than you think, I didn't realise she'd actually grabbed it," he said.

Saying Harpie still talks about the moment, they explained they'd told her it was 'kissed' by the fish and mermaids. ?
