Pregnant Tiff Hall reduced to tears by stranger's cruel comments

By Merryn Porter |

Pregnant women often receive unsolicited comments from strangers, ranging from the annoying to ridiculous to downright rude.

Now personal trainer turned author and entrepreneur Tiffiny Hall, the wife of TV and radio funnyman Ed Kavalee, has revealed the truly awful comments a stranger made about her pregnant body, which left her in tears.

Hall, who rose to fame as a trainer on the TV shows Gladiators, and The Biggest Loser Australia franchise, announced in December she was expecting her second child with Kavalee, calling it a "dream come true."

But as much as she has delighted in her growing belly, she touched on the downside during an appearance on her husband's 2Day FM show, Hughesy, Ed & Erin, where she shared some of the awful comments made to her, including one in a cafจฆ that reduced her to tears.

"People just think when you're pregnant they get to say whatever they want to you and it's a free for all," Hall said.

"And it's just hurting my feelings. It's getting a bit too much, especially because I still have seven weeks to go and everyone is like, 'Oh my God, you must be about to pop, you are massive, you are enormous'."

Kavalee then jumped in, saying, "We have had two men in public... say, while I am standing there, to my wife, 'You're massive'."

Hall added, "And they follow it up with, 'It must be a girl, because girls steal your looks and you look like you're struggling."

Kavalee went on to explain that a man in a cafจฆ said to his wife, "You must be having a girl because she's stolen your looks. My wife, she had three girls and all she had was only a tiny basketball, but you're massive'."

Hall said Kavalee did not "do a Will Smith" or seem to react to the slur. "He did not defend me, he just sat there," she said. "And I was dying. I actually cried after that. I had a cry."

It is not the first time Hall has struggled with her changing body as a result of pregnancy, admitting in the past she put on 30 kilograms while pregnant with her son Arnold, now four.

She told Today in 2017 that she had expected to be very fit and active during her first pregnancy but wound up with terrible all-day morning sickness, which led to hormonal food cravings.

She found 'bounce-back' photos published by other new mums damaging to her self-esteem, so decided to post photos of her own weight gain.

She went on to lose 21 kilograms over four months and said she did so by "concentrating on being happy and enjoying my baby."

Hall has since gone public about her battle with chronic fatigue syndrome and her efforts to return to good health.
