Neighbour's angry note demands mum keep 'rowdy' kids quiet: 'Respect us'

By Heidi Krause|

A neighbour's angry note has sparked outrage online, after they demanded a mother stop her kids from being noisy when playing outside.

The anonymous note, which was posted in the WA Incident Alerts Facebook group by 'Sophie from Mandurah', generated thousands of comments after it was shared.

"Hello number 19," the note began. "You have just moved into our street, to which we are hoping you listen to our concerns. Your kids are kicking the footy which at times they are so rowdy they wake us all up."

The irritated neighbour then went on to explain that there are several shift workers living in the street. "Your direct neighbours are not happy as the footy bangs against the fence and this makes their dogs bark, which then wakes up the whole street."

"Could you please be quieter and respect us," the note concluded, before threatening to get "outside agencies" involved.

"Also you have a caravan on the property with someone living in it. You need permission from the council. Thank you, your neighbours."

The note immediately triggered disapproval, with the majority of people supporting Sophie and slamming the neighbour's tactic.

"If I got that note, I would probably have considered trying to keep the kids' noise level down a bit - until the "outside agencies" threat. I'd buy the kids a drum kit!", said one.

"Thank you number 19 for being a fantastic Mum for letting your kids be kids, we are elderly and go down south to a farm stay over the Christmas school holidays in our caravan. There are kids and dogs running and playing with each other and what a joyful noise they all make and yes it makes us smile. We were young once and so where your neighbours," commented another.

"How dare your children have fun outside. Bring them inside and sit them down in front of technology and keep them quiet Some people!," joked another.

"I am a shift worker and I would never complain about kids playing on the street. Let them enjoy their childhood," declared a fourth.

Other parents lamented the fact they didn't have kids playing in their own street - and found the neighbour's approach cowardly and offensive.

"Wish we had neighbouring houses with kids. We seem to live in a kid-free area (except ours)," noted one mum.

"This person should have gone to the people in number 19 and spoke to them directly, such a coward thing to do, let the kids play,"

"I'd say tough luck. Buy roller shutters and noise-cancelling headphones and get over yourselves."
