I kicked my mother out for stealing my son's ballet medals

By Georgia Weir|

Unfortunately, the days of squabbling with our parents can continue even into adulthood. This was the case for one Reddit user who took to the platform's Am I the A***ole forum to vent about kicking her mother out of her home following an argument.

The anonymous poster explained that her three children are all "extremely talented" in their own right. Her children include her eighteen-year-old son, a ballet dancer, her sixteen-year-old son, an athletic swimmer and her fifteen-year-old daughter, a "violin genius".

As any proud parent would, the Redditor said that she and her husband display the kids' photos, medals and trophies around their house to celebrate their achievements.

Following on from this, the poster said that at the time her mother was visiting the family. On one particular day, the family had gone on an outing and the mother had declined due to feeling tired and wanting to rest.?

Upon the family's return, the poster had noticed that some of the children's medals, photographs and certificates were missing from the house.?

Her mother quickly admitted to taking down some of the achievements because they came across as "obsessive" and "snobby".?

To make matters worse, her mother then proceeded to poke fun at her eldest grandson for doing ballet.?

The redditor claimed she was in total disbelief and decided to kick her mother out.?

The conflict immediately divided her family with her mother posting to Facebook about her daughter's "disrespectful" and "ungrateful" behaviour. Her sister was also horrified to learn that the anonymous redditor had kicked their elderly mother out in an unfamiliar town.

However, other Redditors were quick to come to the poster's defence.?

"Your home should be your sanctuaryกญYour mother sounds like a small, jealous person. She doesn't deserve to stay in your home." said one user.

Others were enraged by the mother's dated gender concepts when picking on her grandson's ballet.?

"Ballet is really, really good for health and fitness. Builds core strength, flexibility, agility and endurance. Lots of pro athletes studied ballet or other dance forms to improve their agility and quickness."

"Why was I not even surprised that she made fun of your son's ballet กญ"
