By Nikolina Koevska Kharoufeh |

The mum of identical twins has resorted to drastic measures to try and identify her two-month-old boys, after she and her husband could not figure out which one was which.

Sofi Rodriguez from Argentina took to Twitter to reveal that she was so thrown by how similar little Lorenzo and Valentin looked that she had to go to the local police station for help.

"I won the mother of the year award," the first-time mum joked as she shared her hilarious story online.

The tweet which has gathered the attention of millions read, "Tomorrow I have to go to the police so they can fingerprint my twins and tell me which one is which."

Rodriguez ?and her partner Leo Costa welcomed their twins just two months ago and explained in an ABC Familia interview that they did have a system for telling them apart though this failed one sleepless night.

The parents had been using different coloured bracelets to tell the two boys apart, but one night they removed Valentin's bracelet as it was getting too small.

Before they were able to replace it with another, Lorenzo had a midnight vomit which required a complete change of clothes and both babies ended up naked without any identifiers.

This is when the parents went into a panic. "We no longer knew who was who," the mum said.

They believed a trip to the police station to get the babies' fingerprints scanned would solve the problem, but unfortunately it didn't.

?"We took his prints but they don't appear in the system. We still don't know who is who," the mum updated curious followers on Twitter.

While they waited for the babies to be identified, they placed a different-coloured ribbon on each to try and differentiate them to help with feeding and sleeping needs.

Luckily, it didn't take too long for the mystery to be solved and just two days later the worried parents were contacted by the Argentinian Ministry who matched the fingerprints taken at birth and managed to confirm who was who.

Since then they have been relying on the coloured ribbons to keep the two boys identified.

After posting her story on Twitter, twin parents from around the world have ?taken to the post to share the different ways they have attempted to tell their identical twins apart.

One mum said she painted the toenail of one of her twins as a way to help. Others said they got their baby girls' ears pieced as soon as they could so that they could have different coloured earrings.

The different stories assured Rodriguez that she isn't the only twin mum who needs help telling her kids apart, "A kiss to all those parents who think they are perfect!"
