'Oblivious': Mum outraged after no one gives up seat for son on crowded train

By 9Honey Parenting|

A mum has caused a stir online after expressing her outrage that no one would give up their seat for her son on a crowded London train.

Posting a video to TikTok, the annoyed mother, 'Kelly', tried to shame the other commuters who appeared to be ignoring her child, sitting on the floor of the train carriage.

"All these people watching my baby sit on the floor in priority seats area!" she wrote in the caption of the clip which has been viewed 2.2 million times. "Oblivious."

Her son, whose age she does not disclose but looks around eight years old, is perched on the ground of the aisle while adult passengers are on seats around him, scrolling on their phones and laptops.

"It's called human decency," she later added after thousands of people responded to the short clip.?

However, the majority of people disagreed with ?Kelly จC and called her out over 'courtesy' and the correct etiquette on public transport.

"My parents used to make me give up my seat for adults... don't make your child think they're entitled," shared one. ?"We give seats to the elderly, not the young!"

"Kids don't take priority seats," another said. "Disabled people, pregnant women, the elderly, or babes in arms."

"Kids sit on the floor, adults have chairs. That's called respect," commented another. "Absolutely nothing wrong with this! Pop your phone away."

"Comments have restored my faith in humanity! I've never understood why adults give up their seat for children!" said another.

Others supported the mum, and thought she had every right to be upset.

"I'm 22 and have a hidden disability, some woman stared me down one time and I told her no," commented one.

?"Poor form from the passengers and in the comments. I'd give up my seat for a child in a second," said another.

What do you think จC should an adult give up their seat for a child on public transport?? Or does it come down to the child's age?

In Australia, common etiquette suggests you offer your seat to someone who needs it more than you.

"This includes people who are older, who have a disability or impaired mobility, who are pregnant or travelling with children," states the Transport for NSW website.
