'I accidentally named my son after my mum and didn't realise for six months'

Naming your child may be one of the most difficult decisions you make before your baby arrives.

Parents will consider how the name goes with the last name, whether they wish to honour someone they love with a moniker and what nickname could form from it.

For one mum, she didn't realise what her child's first and middle name spelt out until they were six months old. ?

"Six months later I realised ?I accidentally named my son after my mum," she wrote in a viral post on Reddit.

"I just had a funny/ ridiculous realisation that my son's middle and first name said together is my mum's name," she wrote.

While she didn't want to identify her family in the post, she gave an example as to what she meant about the accidental name.

"Without doxxing them both, here's an example:

Mum's name: Marilyn.

Son's name: Lin Mara."

The mum said it was "so ridiculous" and "can't believe nobody else has noticed". ?

Explaining the decision behind her baby's name she said, "My son's first name is meaningful in his dad's language and his middle name has a meaning in the languages of both our cultures."

Some in the comments could relate to awkward baby naming situations.

"Here's my hilarious awful story," one user wrote. "[I] gave birth to my son, and my dad and mum and younger brother were all visiting me.

"As soon as the cord was cut and we were situated my mum stood up and yelled 'Eric, Eric, come meet new baby Derek' and I went oh sh-- ??."
