Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino shares terrifying moment son, two, choked on pasta: 'Scariest moment of our lives'

American reality TV star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino ?has shared a terrifying video showing his son Romeo choking on pasta.
"THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF OUR LIVES!!" Sorrentino explained on Instagram alongside the video.
"It was an ordinary dinner at the Situations when suddenly without notice Romeo started choking on his favorite pasta pesto gnocchi!!"
Sorrentino said two-year-old Romeo "hunched over and wasn't breathing."

In the video, we see the family sitting down to dinner. Romeo takes a bite of his dinner and when he first coughs he adorably does so into his elbow as children are taught to do to avoid the spread of germs. He continues to try and cough.
Romeo then places his hand on his mouth, whic is when his parents become alerted to their son's distress.?
Sorrentino gets up out of his chair to attend to his son with wife Lauren joining him. Lauren calmly says, "Cough it up."

Then, Romeo slumps out of his chair.
Sorrentino immediately begins patting his son firmly on the back as he lifts him out of his seat, holding him face down and setting him on the floor, continuing to pat him.
Romeo begins stomping his feet on the ground as he struggles to breathe.
Lauren walks quickly to the kitchen and retrieves what Sorrentino later explains is a dechoker tool designed for situations like this. In the comments it is explained the tool can be purchased via LifeVac or on Amazon.?
The food is dislodged and Romeo begins breathing normally again, crying loudly. Lauren picks up her son and slumps to the floor holding him.
Sorrentino said in the video description he was "so proud of how my wife and I didn't panic, didn't hesitate and eventually dislodged the food which was blocking airway and saved his life."

Sorrentino ended the post by saying: "I love my family with all my heart and am so grateful things worked out it's safe to say we are now taking CPR lessons and Romeo won't be having gnocchi anytime soon."
Gnocchi is potato pasta shaped into small dumplings.
Child first aid service Tiny Hearts advises parents in the event of their child choking to "use gravity" and "lean them forward" as Sorrentino does with his son in the video.
They also advise parents to "encourage them to keep coughing."
Parents are also advised to call Triple Zero (000) and continue life-saving measures including giving "five back blows using the heel of one hand, in between the shoulder blades."
If your child is still choking parents are advised to give "five chest thrusts using two fingers in the middle of the chest between the nipples" and check the child's airways in between to see if the obstruction has been cleared.
CPR is recommended if the child loses consciousness until paramedics arrive.?
Sorrentino's Instagram followers praised the couple for their actions.

"Wow the way Lauren was so calm!! I would have been the opposite. That's a good wife right there!!" one said.
"The calmness is top notch. Had you become upset it would've upset him further. Fabulous job!" another said.
Another commented: "I love how Lauren was constantly reassuring Dad that he was okay so Dad wouldn't panic. Y'all worked together beautifully."?
