"But the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this time at this stage of my life."?

She said the momentous shift in her life and lifestyle approach was sparked by the birth of her third child.

"Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times," she said during a recent webinar to promote her latest book.

"I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realise what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home."

Kondo shares three children, two daughters and a son with husband and producer Takumi Kawahara.

In 2020 the tidying guru spoke about her approach to parenting and "giving up on perfection".

"I take the time to listen. Once they've calmed down, I ask them what's bothering them and then, to let them know I understand, I say, 'So that made you sad,' or 'That's what you didn't like," she told People.

"I try to honor their feelings," said Kondo, who also said chaos is part of parenthood and "it's quite natural for kids to have tantrums จC when they do, they do."

?Kondo's new book is called Marie Kondo's Kurashi at Home: How to Organise Your Space and Achieve Your Ideal Life.?

In short, the book expands on the Japanese concept of Kurashi, or "way of life" and how to bring happiness and calmness into the everyday.

Kondo now believes tidying up mental and emotional spaces are as important as keeping a home clean.
