Internet blasts lying husband over 'selfish' airline booking while he lives it up in business class

By Merryn Porter |

Flying with toddlers can be difficult, and you would be forgiven for wanting to make it as easy as possible.

So a woman is understandably angry after she agreed to accompany her husband on a 14-hour flight on the premise that she and their son fly premium economy, only to learn he had booked them into economy, while he will be lapping it up in business class.

And to make matters worse, he not only lied about the booking but was "too cheap" to pay a seat allocation fee, leaving his wife unable to choose seats for herself and her son.

The woman took to popular internet forum Mumsnet under the user name britsabroad this week to vent.

"Flying long haul on Friday กช 14 hour flight. [Husband] going for a week's work and wanted me and [two-year-old] son to go and tag on a holiday," she began.

"I only agreed to go if [son] and I flew premium economy as it's a long way [and] I'll be on my own with toddler whilst [husband] is in business class (work paid for his ticket)."

She said her husband initially agreed to the request as he had "lots of points to use". He even told her he had booked his wife and son premium economy seats before she discovered the truth six weeks later.

"[He] basically booked the cheapest economy tickets available (no seat reservation option/upgrade option)," she wrote.

"I tried ringing [the] airline but premium economy was fully booked one way and the other way there was space but at a cost of $2000, so I said 'No'."

However, the woman has since learned she can't even choose her own seats at check-in and has been allocated a middle and aisle seat.

"I'm worried that if [son] has the middle seat and if he sleeps I'll have to wake him up to let person in window seat go past," she wrote?

"I've rung the airline but they said the seats canกฏt be changed.

"I've gone nuts at my [husband] because I think he's a selfish prick that was too tight to book a seat reservation when making the booking.

"Meanwhile, he laps it up in business class. Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed?"

She also asked the internet if she could drag him out of business class "so he can do his share of parenting".

"I doubt we can swap half way through but did wonder if he could take [our son] to sleep with him as he will be able to lie down?"

Internet users were quick to side with the mum, calling her husband 'selfish'. Many pointed out the worst part was the fact he lied.

?"What's his justification for this? And why are you the one ringing around and trying to sort this? Does your husband often treat you with such utter disrespect? I wouldn't be going on this holiday," wrote one.

"I'd be furious. What a crappy way to treat your wife and child," said another.

"What is his excuse for lying straight to your face? I wouldn't be going at all in these circumstances," was another comment.

"Don't go, just send him and [son]. Let him do some heavy lifting or stay at home," wrote another.

"Don't go. Book yourself a separate holiday somewhere [child] friendly. If you go you're condoning his prickish behaviour. This way he loses money and won't pull the stunt again," wrote another commenter.

One user suggested she take the business seat on the way home, while at least one person saw the funny side. "Obviously just swap tickets with [husband] and if he tries approaching you, claim not to know him. Enjoy the champagne," wrote one.
