'I had no idea I was pregnant for 6.5 months': Myley thought she had gas. She was wrong

By Naomi White|

M?any women may have had that moment when their period is late, or they feel a bit off and thought: 'Could it be?'

But not for Myley Jay, who put her pregnancy symptoms down to gas - for six-and-a-half months. ?

The mum, from the US, shared her story on TikTok, explaining it wasn't until she was 28 weeks along that she discovered she was expecting. And people had questions.

"I didn't know I was pregnant for 6.5 months" she explained in a clip. "I know that sounds insane. I would always hear these stories and think: 'How could someone be that dumb?' This is how."

"I was 20 years old and on the birth control shot. My periods started getting spaced out then went away completely. Being pregnant literally never crossed my mind."

?Filming a follow-up Q&A video, the mum addressed the most common questions she's asked.?

"Did you notice any movements?" asked one person, which generally happen from about 16 weeks.

"I probably did. But I didn't notice them until after I found out," she explained. "They feel like gas bubbles, or your tummy is just rumbling a bit."

"When you know you're not pregnant and you feel a little gas bubble, you don't think, 'Wait, is that a baby moving inside me? I'm probably super pregnant'."

She never questioned her periods stopping, as she had been told this was a side effect of her birth control. ?

It wasn't until she described the vague symptoms she'd been experiencing - including leg cramps, to her mum that the possibility of pregnancy was mentioned. Taking a test to 'humour' her mum, she didn't quite believe the positive result.

But a trip to ?Planned Parenthood confirmed not only was she pregnant, but she was estimated to be 28 weeks along.

Despite finding out so late, Myley assured viewers there were no negative impacts on her baby.

"Yes, my baby was perfectly healthy. I was hot tubbing, laying in tanning beds, consuming a whole lot of caffeine," said Myley, who doesn't drink.

"When I was about five months pregnant I ran and dove onto my stomach on a slip and slide."

Only once did she feel nauseous, which she put down to something she ate. ?

"I had just scarfed down a very questionable bean and cheese burrito, so I was really just regretting that decision, and not at all thinking, 'Wait, am I pregnant?'," she said.

Her story left many on TikTok shocked, with many sharing they had the opposite problem - assuming they were pregnant at the slightest symptom.

"I literally always am afraid I'm pregnant whenever I throw up or feel off," said one. "?I always think I'm pregnant. Every little gas bubble, every cramp," agreed another.

"I'm on the pill and I take a pregnancy test every month regardless because I have this fear," added another, while one person said: "Monthly pregnancy test alarm is set."

But Myley wasn't the only one not to twig they could be expecting.

"?I didn't know till about two almost three months. [I] have an anterior placenta and didn't have pregnancy first trimester symptoms till a couple months pregnant lol," shared one.

"?I was the same! But I thought I was going through menopause, because I was 45 when I had my son! It happens!" agreed another.
