Lunchbox Tales: Sydney dad's 'dizza' creation proves hit for teen sons

By Georgia Weir|

Welcome to 9Honey Parenting's new series Lunchbox Tales, where each week we lift the lid on what mums and dads are really packing their children for lunch.

There is no parent shaming here, just an intimate look at the lunches and snacks Australian kids are taking to school จC and what they bring home at the end of the day.

This week, Sydney dad Adrian lifts the lid on what he packs in sons', Nicholas, 16, and Patrick's, 14, lunchboxes. When it gets to food time at school, the boys will open their lunchboxes to find this:

Wrapped in tin foil is Adrian's 'dizza' - a dad pizza as he calls it. The dizza's are topped with everything from leftovers to deli meats.

9Honey Parenting: Does your child have a favourite lunchbox food?

The boys will always ask for a dizza but if they're super lucky they sometimes can take leftover curry and rice from dinner.

9Honey Parenting: What has been your biggest lunchbox failure?

I tried to incorporate tomato into lunchbox snacks but I found that it goes soggy, especially sandwiches - they did not get eaten!

9Honey Parenting: Does your school have any lunchbox rules?

Pretty much the standard rules at all schools - no peanuts or nut products.

9Honey Parenting: Do you have any lunchbox hacks?

I've found a good hack is to make sure lunch boxes contain tasty things as well as healthy things จC I find it's about balance จC and if they don't want to eat it, at least it should be tradable for some other kid's lunch in the same boat.
