'I take full responsibility': Boy praised for heartfelt confession note found 'under office door'

By Georgia Weir|

It's perfectly normal for kids to make mistakes. And yes, these mistakes are plentiful and bound to happen. However, when these mistakes are inevitably made, it is how the child makes up for them that is perhaps the most important life lesson.

One boy has proven this theory with a handwritten note he left for staff at an ice rink after he stole from a vending machine.

And when the touching letter was shared on social media, it triggered an outburst of emotion among readers.

Reddit user Mikehimself29 shared a post titled "Found this under my office door, along with $6", in the 'Made Me Smile' forum after finding a note on the floor at his job a few weeks ago.?

When Mike opened the note, he was surprised to find six dollars and a confession.?

Addressed to the ice arena, the note reads:

"On Tuesday night I was watching practice. I saw someone stick their hand up the vending machine and steal a pop tart."

The anonymous boy said he was then dared to steal from the vending machine and took some crackers.

"I was dared to try it and I made a terrible decision. I reached up and grabbed crackers and ate them. I take full responsibility for my decision. I promise I will never do it again. I will also set a better example."

The note continues, "I'm not sure how much the crackers cost. I wanted to make sure it was enough. I also want to pay for the pop tarts someone took. I am very sorry."

Many people lamented over their own mistakes as children.

"It's amazing how formative these moments are. When I was a kid, I had a similar moment and never stole anything again," one person wrote.

"I once stole ?a plastic dinosaur toy in kindergarten from a classmate. I was so physically ill from the stress and shame I was puking and threw the toy in the trash," another recalled.

Others praised the child for owning up to the theft.

"I'm proud of this person for swallowing their pride and trying to do better once they realised their mistake. Courage and honesty matter," another person commented.

"Somebody is raising that kid right. Make mistakes? Sure. Make it right? Absolutely," a fourth added.
