Katy Perry opens up about 'crazy' first six weeks with daughter Daisy: 'No one tells you'

By 9Honey Parenting|

Anyone who has cared for a newborn knows time loses all meaning.

Day, night, neither matter much anymore, as there's no sleep happening, and it feels like you're in a relentless cycle of feed/poop/attempt to settle baby to sleep/repeat?.

Thankfully, the overwhelm usually does ease and it's only when you look back that you realise just how chaotic those first few weeks are.

It was no different for Katy Perry, who has opened up about the struggles of caring for a newborn, describing her first six weeks with daughter Daisy, now two, as 'crazy'.

Speaking with ET Canada, the Firework? singer got candid about the reality of parenting a new baby.

"No one tells you about the first six weeks of having your first child," she shared.

"What? This is crazy! You're feeding in the same corner of the same room for six weeks straight thinking, 'Will I ever leave this house? And if I do, will they be OK?'"

The 38-year-old, who welcomed Daisy with partner Orlando Bloom, also shared how Daisy had taught her to learn to live in the moment more.?

"The most mundane, beautiful things. You get this surge of joy back and it just makes everything come to life," she said.

"For me, I've learned a lot about presence and that was something that I really wanted to give as a mother is just, 'Yeah, there's a zillion WhatsApp chats on fire, but I'm going to put this down and I'm going to colour with you right now for 30 minutes because I love you.'"

It's one of the reasons Perry had said she's reluctant to hire a full time nanny, saying she doesn't want to miss out on any time with the toddler.

Speaking with Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman on the SmartLess podcast, Perry said she tries to ensure she's very hands-on with Daisy.?

"I have a wonderful nanny, but I don't have a full-time nanny because I feel like if I had a full-time nanny then I would never be able to know how to care for my daughter like I'm meant to," she said.

"And so therefore, any day I get off, I'm just in mum mode," she explained. "Doesn't matter if I've had a show that goes to 11pm the night before, I'm waking up at six o'clock and we're going to go and do breakfast and yes, I have the no sleep shakes."
