Dad trolled over reaction to unborn child's sex in gender reveal video

By Merryn Porter |

Finding out the gender of your unborn baby can be an emotional experience for both the expectant parents.

But what if you don't get the news you had been hoping for?

Now a gender reveal has gone viral following the reaction of the father-to-be, racking up more than 32.4 million views in just five days and causing a huge debate on social media.

Self-described "army wife" kc.Fulton uploaded the video to her TikTok account this week, which shows the moment she revealed the sex of her unborn baby to her husband.

The video begins with kc standing outside with her husband and two young daughters. She lifts an umbrella above her head and presses the button to open it, releasing a shower of pink confetti over their heads.

But while she smiles and starts to laugh, her husband says forlornly "Ah f---!" before walking out of shot, and then loudly exclaiming 'F---!" again off-screen.

The mum-to-be tries to stay upbeat, asking her daughter, "What is is Kaya? Are you having a baby brother or baby sister?" But before she can answer, the baby daddy walks in front of the screen and again exclaims "F---!".

"A baby brother!" the little girl says excitedly, before her mum corrects her, "No, a baby sister."

She uploaded the video with the comment, "Baby Fulton #3 is a... I swear he's happy," along with a laughing emoji and the hashtags #umbrella, #confetti, #genderreveal #fultongirls #girlmom and #byebyesundayblue.

Perhaps anticipating a backlash, she had turned off comments before uploading the video, which has so far received more than 2.6 millions likes.

But while people were unable to comment directly on her post, the viral video soon began popping up elsewhere, including Twitter, where it elicited a big reaction.

"Serious question about these types of videos กช what do you think it's communicating to the other little girls when their dad reacts like this?" asked one Twitter user, who uploaded the video, which was viewed 2.7 million times.

Another Twitter user who uploaded the video wrote, "I hate gender reveal videos where the parents are visibly upset in general. I feel like if you care that much about what you're having, just open that envelope in private so the kid's don't have to see these videos later. Cry in the car."

In answer to the criticism, kc uploaded another video the next day featuring a collage of photos of his two daughters set to the song Daddy's Little Girl, and wrote, "He loves ALL of his girls and they love him. He has loved his babies since the second he found out we were having them! He IS a good dad," and the hashtags #proudgirldad #daddysgirls #myhusband and #ByeByeSundayBlues.

However, not everyone was convinced, with many referring to the second video as "damage control."

"Sure bud. Who are you trying to convince? Us or you?" wrote one, while another said, "Yeah damage is done bro."

"My parents loved me too, but finding out one of them didn't want me as a baby messed me upกญ and his reaction is on video," wrote another.

"We literally saw him in fact not love the third the moment he heard about herกญ" said another.

"We all know what he did. Don't excuse his behaviour because he or you are embarrassed of it. What he did wasn't OK. Period," another wrote, while another said, "I feel for you. I know exactly what it's like to have to compensate like this for a spouse that's severely lacking."

But others thought his gender reveal reaction was a prank or tongue in cheek. "A sense of humour is lacking in this world. Congratulations. Don't allow the comments to affect you," one said.
