Babysitter reveals why she called the police on the parents who arrived home late

By Victoria Owens|

Booking a babysitter can be a daunting process for any parent because it's not easy trying to find the best person to take care of your precious babies.

But what happens when the babysitter takes the responsibility a little too far?

One babysitter has taken to Reddit to explain the stressful situation she was left in by the parents of a 13-week-old baby and two-year-old toddler.

The Reddit user said she had looked after the children before without any issues so was more than happy to accept the babysitting job while their parents attended a wedding.

The night started out as normal.

"Our evening went as smoothly as it could with a toddler and baby. I got them to bed by 7:30 and started putting the house back together."

But like most parents on a child-free night out, they soon messaged her to see if they could push their return time back a little.?

"At 10:15 p.m., I got a text from the parents asking if I could stay until 12, and I told them that's fine and to have fun."

But as the clock ticked closer to midnight, the wheels started to come off.

The weirdest things kids have been found sleeping with

"12:15 rolls around, and I haven't heard from the parents, I sent a text asking if they're close and didn't get a response."

She says she can "be pretty anxious" and admits her "mind started thinking they got into an accident or something bad happened".

After trying to call them, she got no answer.

"1am rolls around, and the baby has already woken up to feed again, and I'm just overly anxious at this point."

She then started checking the city's Twitter page to look up if there's been any accidents but couldn't find anything that would explain their absence.

"2am rolls around, and I kid you not, I have called around 15 times and received no answer from either parent."

She considered calling the police but was still "hoping that the parents would walk in".

"At 5am I decided to call the police and report the parents missing and I told them I couldn't keep them after having them all night."

She says the police showed up at 5:22am, took a statement from her and asked if she could stay with the kids until they could figure out what to do.?

But around 25 minutes later, the missing parents finally rocked up.?

"At 5:48am, they roll up and are greeted by the police จC the mum ran into the house, thinking something had happened to the kids, and sighed when she saw they were there."

The parents said that their "phones died, and [they] didn't know how to get home from the venue".

But the now very tired and "fuming" babysitter slammed them as being "irresponsible and the sh---iest parents'" she has ever worked for, before demanding her pay and leaving.??

But the ordeal wasn't over yet.?The parents then messaged her to complain.

"I got a super long message about how this is my job and I'm a huge a--hole for disrespecting them and calling the police."

"She felt like I could've left them with the neighbours or called the emergency contacts, not the police. AITAH?"

The post received almost 600 comments, with many stating that she did the right thing. Others questioned why the parents didn't bring chargers.

"That's why I also am just so upset จC people carry chargers everywhere!" she added.

"I don't think they couldn't get home I think they didn't want to come home!"
