Turia Pitt: 'I've never been happier'

By Jessica Rapana|

Turia Pitt has shared a moving message six years after a bushfire left her with burns to 65 percent of her body, saying she has rebuilt her life and กฐnever been happierกฑ.

Pitt was engulfed in flames on September 22, 2011 while running the 100km ultra-marathon in the Kimberley region. The then 24-year-old engineer was hospitalised and almost died.

But today, reflecting on her กฐbloody toughกฑ six-year recovery, Pitt posted a smiling portrait of herself on Instagram, telling her 273,000 followers she has กฐnever been happierกฑ.

กฐIกฏve never felt compelled to acknowledge the anniversary, but itกฏs been six years today since I was trapped in a grassfire competing in an ultra marathon,กฑ she wrote.

กฐItกฏs been bloody tough and there's been massive lows, but Iกฏve managed to rebuild my life and I can honestly say, Iกฏve never been happier.

กฐSo, this post is for anyone going through a rough patch or a shit time - hang in there, surround yourself with good people and never lose hope for your future.กฑ

This year has marked some big milestones for Pitt, including her and fiance Michael Hoskin announcing in June they are having a baby, which is due in December this year.

Her new memoir Unmasked was also released in April, providing unprecedented insight into her support network during her recovery and how they were impacted by the accident.

Pittกฏs post today has been liked more than 11,000 times in just a few hours, with many praising her positive attitude and hailing her as an กฐinspirationกฑ.

กฐWhenever I am feeling down, I think of you, recheck my attitude and get on with it - with a smile - yours lights up the room,กฑ one of her followers wrote.

กฐYou are a beacon that shines for so many. Keep being amazing and what a journey you are about to begin with you own little one,กฑ another commented.
