Talking Honey: Is it still okay for a man to compliment a woman on her looks?

By Jo Abi|

We're living in a new world when it comes to men and women and how they interact and its a good thing.

Women deserve to feel safe and respected at all times.

But how far do we take it? Where are the new lines? And what are the rules for when those new lines are breached?

Today in Talking Honey our panellists discuss if it is still okay for men to compliment a woman on her looks and while confusion reigns, Shelly Horton, John Aiken, Jane de Graaff and Jo Abi definitely make some headway on this topic.

As Horton points out, while some women feel comments about their looks aren't the go, others want praise for effort they've put into how they look.

9Honey's Jane de Graaff says its all about how the compliment is delivered and the words that are used.

Relationship expert John Aiken agrees, saying compliments can be a "great way of fostering a really positive relationship" and uses the example that Horton, de Graaff and Abi advised him on what to wear for today's panel and he wasn't offended at all. In fact, he asked for their help.

He complimented de Graaff on her awesome earrings and as work relationships go, everything is awesome for this group.

Abi, however, said compliments from men can leave some women feeling they have been "reduced to how they look", which is when the conversation gets interesting.
