Aldi shopper demonstrates four hilarious checkout techniques

By Jo Abi|

An Aldi shopper has demonstrated four exaggerated types of checkout techniques seen at the discount grocery retailer.

The woman known as Uyen, who shared the video on TikTok @uyenthininh has hilariously shown each type. She posted the video along with the caption: "I tried and it worked."

The techniques demonstrated are:

1. The All In
2. Extra Hands
3. The Slow Grandma
4. The Giving Up

The first technique sees the woman wait for the groceries to pile up before she sweeps them carelessly into her bag using her arm.

The second sees two extra hands appear from behind her, helping her place items in her bag.

In the third technique we see Uyen take on the persona of an older shopper who takes their time. The words, "They'll have mercy," appear during this part of the clip.

The fourth shows the frustrated woman looking forlorn but making no effort at all to get her groceries into her bag in time as they are thrown at her by the checkout person.

"No. 1 was seriously impressive," commented one TikTok follower, who may attempt that technique next time they visit Aldi.

Another identified themselves as "slow grandma all the way".

"I have tried the slow grandma and the given up, didn't work," reports one commenter.

"Just put the fruit, veggies and bread last," suggests another. "Whatever they have to weigh or count slows them down."

While the conversation continued with TikTok followers sharing their tips, one person was unapologetic about taking their time at the Aldi checkout.

"I absolutely fill it in at my own pace and ignore the rush," they said. "I will pay when I am ready."

Another writes: "I once packed FASTER than the cashier. And she didn't go slow. She was impressed."

"Take your time," suggests another. "You won't see the people behind you ever again."

One former Aldi worker claimed cashiers were timed to ensure they were speedy, saying they would get "scolded for going too slow".

"Put the cart in front and and then I always have a competition who's faster, them scanning or me putting the stuff away," shares another.
